Meet Randy Hazlett

Born and raised in Barrie, Randy Hazlett has been a Northern Ontario resident in the French River area since 2016. He quickly grew to love the region and its people, and wants to make a difference in the community and surrounding area. That’s why, when the 2018 municipal election approached, Randy decided he would seize the opportunity to give back to the community that he had come to call home. It’s been Randy’s desire for a long time to enter into politics and public service. As Councillor for the French River Ward 3, Randy has been involved in many projects and boards such as Vice Chair of French River Library board, Chair of the French River Environmental Committee, member of the Recreation Committee and the Economic Development Committee.

In Randy’s first year of council, he identified the need for an outdoor ice rink in his town of Alban. With the help of public support and donations, they produced the perimeter boards of the ice rink, and together with the help of several volunteers they built and maintained the rink for 2 seasons with little financial impact to the municipality.

In 2019 Randy set out to improve accessibility in his community as his mobility had been affected due to a transport truck accident in 2005. Randy was encouraged to seek the involvement of the Sudbury East Municipal Association. With Randy as Chair and the 4 SEMA municipalities, they successfully formed the Sudbury East Accessibility Committee.

Shortly thereafter, Randy began to expand his area of interest and joined The Sudbury and District’s Board of Health and was also elected to sit on the Executive and Finance Committee and The Association of Municipalities as a board member in the northeast caucus.  Randy is also a member of the French River Lions Club as the director of membership. This organization and his involvement mean so much to him and his family.

As a longtime supporter of the conservative movement and coming from the city of Barrie which has a long-standing conservative stronghold, Randy is prepared to join Doug Ford in turning the tide in Nickel Belt. He is honoured to be considered for this great opportunity to take on this new and exciting challenge. Randy is looking forward to working with the PC Party and making a difference.
